Holy Beans Coffee | Our Story
Holy Beans Espresso – sharing the love and passion for coffee from humble beginnings
Hemanth & Heena started Holy Beans Espresso in 2007. Growing up in the coffee farms located in the princely state of Mysore, Southern India, Hemanth was often told about the hard work his elders had endured for the last three generations, converting dense bushes on mountain slopes into farmlands, planting coffee seedlings and waiting for the next five years before they could cherish the results of their hard work by picking the coffee crop…year after year.
It is often said, a coffee grower pours his life into the crop, and we at Holy Beans Espresso ensure the same soulfulness goes into each cup served.
Our coffees are imported from the same 100 years old family coffee plantations, which produce both the high quality Arabica and Robusta coffee beans.
The Single Origin Estate coffees are so unique there is no parallel anywhere in the world. Our exquisite coffees are roasted in microbatches in Auckland to be served at “Holy Beans Espresso Lounge”.
SEVEN BEANS & THE SAINT
Legend has it that in the 1630s a Muslim holy man, Baba Budan, managed to smuggle seven fertile beans out of Yemen and back to his home in the Chandragiri hills. These seeds took root at his mountain abode near the picturesque town of Chickmagalure. This place later became known as Bababudangiri hills.
FOUR GENERATIONS
It is in these lush, verdant slopes of the Bababudangiri hills that our great grandfather Doddasiddalinge Gowda first established the coffee plantations in the 1880s which were later passed on to our grandfather I.S.Malle Gowda and then to our uncle D.B.Manje Gowda who in turn inherited these beautiful coffee plantations.
